Weeknotes 2022-12-21
My first ever weeknotes, this is a live and open experiment. As a true believer in ISO 8601, the date at the top is the Monday of the week I’m jotting down.
Eventually there might be some standard structure to these notes, but for now, I’m just going to start typing.
Office
Started the week with a day physically in the office, which is becoming a more regular occurrence, and one that I’m enjoying. Analytical work is well-suited to a hybrid working pattern. Periods of relative peace at home are essential for getting code written, but so too are periods in the office meeting colleagues, hearing news, and staying connected. How else to make sure we’re contributing real value?
Progress
This is the week of a nursing strike (Tues), and ambulance strike (Weds), and while I fully support their cause it did mean that 2 of the 3 meetings I’d travelled in for were cancelled. I used the time freed, and the in-person connection with a colleague, to make significant progress on a method for reliable and fast ward occupancy reporting.
Now it’s the end of the week (a short one as I break up for xmas), and we have 2 prototype methods, both quick to reproduce. This is major progress, and a method we must reproduce with our other “big questions”.
Training
Managed to join, and follow through on 4 hours of training on team dynamics. I enrolled independently, and this time managed to keep the date free enough to join. Valuable, and now feel better equipped with tools for some of the next steps. Key takeaways – first loyalty needs to be to team morale, which supports productivity and delivery.
Quickfire progress
- New laptop tracked down for team member, and standard analyst software listing written.
- Good meeting with regional colleagues – feeling increasingly well tuned in to and in agreement with priorities.
- Sorted gifts for team. Too late for xmas unfortunately, but it feels good to have been able to do this. A year ago there was no team.
- Put some work into our report index, ready to start visualising workload.
Christmas
This year has been busy and at times a breathless one. My prep for christmas his been minimal, so today I break up for a dew days with family to get things ready. Are weeknotes a thing over Christmas? I’ll find out next week.
